I was having a conversation with one of my friends the other day about how the computer world seems to be converging. It seems that likely in less than three years there will be no need to be committed to one specific platform. It’s very easy to even now be able to buy an old notebook and throw a small Linux OS on it for free (and for that matter one that is fully featured like Ubuntu), and be able to be cross-platform with about as many people as you like.
Now certainly there will always be the exception, like if you are a serious gamer, there will be limitations, but if you’re computer is not your main source of income for Graphic Design, etc. Linux provides a cheap or free alternative to the “biggies.”
If your computer is our central location for entertainment and communication, many alternative OS choices provide just about everything you need for that.
Maybe my prediction will be proved wrong, and I am OK with being wrong, but it seems as though this is the way tech is going.
